I began Spectrum small-group training about 15 months ago at age 80. My goals were limited: lose 30 pounds and improve resistance to recurrent low-back and shoulder problems. I’ve slowly but steadily lost over 24 pounds of body fat so far but accompanied by visible and measurable gains in muscle-mass. As hoped, my back & shoulders are less problematic. My arthritic knee has not responded quite as well and does limit some exercises. I’ve long accepted that strength training at any age was beneficial, but the effectiveness of this program was unexpected: I am doing 12-pushups per set and squats with an 80-pound load. Last month I installed two 65-lb air-conditioners with no bodily consequences. Also, I no longer need blood pressure medications.
